Topic
Selection: Select
a topic for your speech. Consider what your audience might already know or
find interesting. Also think about how much information will be
available about your topic. A list of possible topics will be provided to
get you started thinking.

Materials:
Find material to support your topic. Use magazine articles, web sites
books, videos, and personal interviews. Be sure to note the source
information for your bibliography. You will need a minimum of three
approved sources for your presentation. You will be required to turn in a
highlighted copy of the materials used. (photocopies of books, web
printouts, InfoTrac articles, etc.)

Notes: Read your
materials and take notes. Your notes should conform to the note card
format. They will be worth 50 points.

Main Points:
Formulate a thesis and decide on main points for your speech. Be sure the
main points support your thesis. You will need a minimum of three pieces
of support for each point.

Outline:
Be sure to follow correct outline format. The outline is worth 100 points
and will be turned in when you give your speech. It must be typed.

Bibliography/works cited:
You will need at least three good sources of information for your speech.
These should appear in a typed bibliography/works cited page. Be sure you
follow the correct format. We will be using the MLA for this project. The
works cited will be turned in along with your sources. It will be worth 50
points.

Visual Aids:
Find or make visual aids to support your speech. You must use at least
four good PowerPoint slides. In addition, you may also use objects,
posters, etc. They will be graded as a part of the speech.

Practice: Practice your speech out loud. Be sure to time your practice. The time
limit for this speech is 4-6 minutes. (You will have a 30-second grace
period on the top side of the limit. (6 1/2 minutes)

Presentation:
Speaking order will be determined by drawing numbers. Everyone must be
ready on the first day. This speech is worth 200 points.
